Well. This is probably going to seem like a very random first post about our new house, but here we are. We bought a house sight-unseen and have been living in it for just over a month now. I am popping on to show you the new matte black chandelier in my dining room because it is a STEAL if you are in the market. I have been doing non-stop projects around the house and forgetting to share. But this is too good! Everyone has been asking me how the house is coming. I usually respond, “we love it, and the projects just seem to keep coming!” A very fun challenge to update this home and make it ours. My brain just keeps swimming with good ideas! The home was built in 2009, but for some reason has finishes that ring more like two or three decades ago to me.
Choosing a fixture
I recently put up a new matte black ceiling fan for us in our living room, and am now on a mission to finish modernizing this house (AKA getting rid of every last bit of super shiny gold/brass). Do not have a good before and after of the living room ceiling fan, but I do have it saved to my stories on Instagram if you follow me there! ANYWAYS I just wanted something simple and timeless for the dining room. All I knew was that I wanted a matte black chandelier. (I did consider spray painting the existing fixture but I genuinely cannot stand trying to spray paint things. lol). My overall criteria were simple, black, with a chain, and under $200. (You better believe an Amazon Affiliate link is coming in the net paragraph, lol). The chain requirement was so I could center it on my table with a ceiling hook.
Matte Black Chandelier: Look for Less
I saw lots of lights similar to the one I purchased in my searches, and most were between $150-$350 for something simple like this. (Unless you are PB who wants $799 for it 🙄. I love you PB, but no.) Welp, I found this bad boy that is nearly identical on Amazon for $55 new. No kidding. I figured it was worth a shot and I would return it if it was terrible, but boy did I luck out! It is GREAT! Still cannot believe I paid $55 for it. I laughed out loud when I saw the $799 price tag for an almost identical one.
*Since writing this post, that chandelier has become unavailable but here are almost identical options for a similar price:

- This one has longer tapers and sharper turns in angles, maybe a bit more modern looking?
Installation
Just want to throw a disclaimer in. You DO have to assemble the light. That consists of spreading the arms out and screwing a hex nut down. Then you thread the wires through the pole, and that’s pretty much it. They do provide a little wrench though and it is all super easy. There is also a video in the product images on Amazon detailing how to assemble it. If you are not handy and planning to hire an electrician to put it up anyways, they could put it together for you. I assembled and installed ours myself. Very easy if you don’t need to shorten your wire or anything. I needed the full length of cord/chain because my light fixture is not centered on my table and I did not want to move electrical. I used a matte black ceiling hook and just created a swag to center it.
So, thoughts on this dupe?! Pretty darn good, right?!
