Alright, I gotta be honest. Edgar and I used to the think throwing a first birthday party was SO DUMB. We figured a baby isnāt going to remember a party, and they canāt really open presents, so what is the point? Then we had a baby. NOT throwing a party was out of the question. š However, this is 2020, COVID-19 era, and we live overseas. So, we threw a tiny party with just a few friends. It was so full of fun though!
Party Decor
The story behind these party decorations is that they are all almost all repurposed. š¬ Also I had like 4 seconds to take these photos before people walked in the door. š The cactus tapestry (Amazon Affiliate link) wall hanging is from my nieceās first birthday two years ago. I have also had headshots taken on it before! The happy birthday banner and gold foil #1 balloon are both from Emmeās BFFās first birthday photoshoot a year ago. I literally didnāt even have to add more air in the balloon. It sat in my storage closet for a year like that (it is filled with regular air, not helium). š¤·š¼āāļø Edgar and I are taking bets on how many more years it will stay inflated. š The other balloons I ordered from Glamfetti Co and Hullaballoons Party on Etsy. š
First Cake
It was our friend Jordanās actual birthday on Emmeās party, so we added her name and birthday year to the cake! We also added a candle for a friend who had a premature end to her pregnancy that week. We wanted to celebrate and honor her baby girlās life and birthday. Emme did her best to blow the candles out for both but she hasnāt quite figured out how to channel the direction of air (see second photo, lol). She can just barely do it. š
Also Emme wasnāt really interested in the cake. She was super excited when it came out and everyone sang, then she played with the frosting for a few minutes and had one bite of actual cake. She managed to get hot pink frosting on three different people though! Also LOVED the ice cream. Ate an entire bowl āmmm-ingā the whole way (no photos of that bc she was shirtless, sorry! lol).
Official Cake Smash
The next day I did some āformalā cake smash photos which were hilarious. She was again, not that into it. Iām not really sure how she can be related to me if she doesnāt love cake butā¦ She kept pushing the cake plate away from her and would only pick tiny little pieces off. And this cake was AMAZING. If I hadnāt gotten in there a few times to show her how good it was it would have just looked like a mouse nibbled the top of the frosting. š She didnāt get a single crumb on her romper and hardly any on her face. š¤·š¼āāļø
That last photo is Emme showing me what I looked like stuffing my face with her cake. š
All in all, we are sad Emme is one but also so happy, and we love her more than life. We are so grateful to be her parents. Happy Birthday, Emme!
